Indigenous Reconciliation & Cultural Safety Resources

The Emerging Leaders Placement Project is committed to reconciliation and cultural safety, offering nonprofit partners exclusive resources to support inclusive environments for Indigenous youth. Guided by an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper, reconciliation is woven into all training, communications, and resources. Youth volunteers participate in webinars on reconciliation and cultural safety, while Indigenous youth receive tailored and culturally grounded support to grow as inclusive community leaders.

Volunteer Engagement and Placement

We partner with nonprofits to create meaningful, culturally safe volunteer roles designed with youth input. Our focus is on accessibility and support, ensuring every young person feels valued and can fully participate, regardless of their background or ability.

Volunteer Recruitment, Selection & Matching

We’re committed to making volunteer engagement simple, supportive, and successful for your organization. Our recruitment and matching process is designed to find volunteers who are genuinely aligned with your mission and ready to contribute meaningfully. Here’s how it works:

Volunteers

Step 1: Recruitment

We promote your volunteer opportunities through schools, youth networks, social media, and community outreach. Our recruitment efforts prioritize youth aged 14–30, including BIPOC, Indigenous youth, and youth with disabilities. Your organization and roles will be featured in our campaigns to help attract aligned, motivated applicants.

Step 2: Screening & Matching

All volunteers complete an application outlining their skills, interests, and availability. Our team screens candidates and matches them to your organization based on fit, goals, and role requirements. You’ll receive candidate profiles and can provide input before placements are confirmed.

Once a match is made, we’ll support onboarding and coordinate logistics so volunteers are ready to contribute on day one. You’ll also receive guidance and support from our team throughout the placement.

Land Acknowledgement

The Women in Leadership Foundation acknowledges that our head office is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ (land) of the Syilx / Okanagan people who have been here since time immemorial. We recognize, honour, and respect the Syilx / Okanagan territory upon which we live, work, and play.

The Okanagan Nation is comprised of 7 member communities in the Southern Interior of British Columbia: Okanagan Indian Band, Osoyoos Indian Band, Penticton Indian Band, Upper Nicola Band, Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, and Westbank First Nation; and in Northern Washington State, the Colville Confederated Tribes.

tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ means the land in the nsyilxcən language and everything that lives and interacts on it. It is an all-encompassing word that expresses the intersectionality of land and nature.

Women in Leadership also recognizes, honours and respects the presence of all Indigenous people, past, present and future.

Funding Acknowledgement

The Emerging Leaders Placement Program is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Service Corps Program.

We are proud to support youth leadership, community engagement, and volunteerism across Canada thanks to this vital funding.
