Are you excited about community celebrations and want to help create a welcoming experience for newcomers and families?


Join Try Toronto's Festival on September 20 in Midtown Toronto! We're seeking 10 enthusiastic volunteers to support our vibrant one-day celebration bringing together newcomers and community members. As a Festival Volunteer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our guests have a joyful, connected experience.


We're looking for volunteers to support three key areas: assisting with our art workshop, helping run the family corner, and providing general onsite support including setup, guiding guests, and helping wherever needed throughout the day.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a community festival celebrating newcomer integration and belonging while meeting diverse community members.


Commitment:

  • Type: One-time festival volunteer opportunity

  • Date: September 20, 2026

  • Hours: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

  • Event Hours: 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (volunteers needed from 10:00 AM for setup and support)

  • Format: In-person

  • Location: Midtown Toronto

  • Volunteers Needed: 10

  • Duration: Full-day commitment (6 hours)


Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Enthusiastic and friendly attitude

  • Comfortable interacting with diverse community members, newcomers, and families

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Willing to be flexible with tasks and work wherever needed

  • Interest in supporting community connection and newcomer integration

  • Able to be on feet and active throughout the day


Key Responsibilities:

  • Art Workshop Support

    • Assist with art workshop activities and setup

    • Help participants with art materials and instructions

    • Encourage creativity and participation

    • Clean up art materials and workspace as needed

  • Family Corner Support

    • Help manage the family corner activities

    • Engage with children and families

    • Assist with activity setup and breakdown

    • Ensure a welcoming, safe environment

  • General Onsite Support

    • Assist with festival setup starting at 10:00 AM

    • Guide guests and help with wayfinding

    • Provide information about festival activities

    • Help with setup, breakdown, and general tasks

    • Be a friendly presence and help wherever needed

    • Support staff with any urgent needs throughout the day

About Try Toronto (Try Canada Initiative):

Try Toronto, operating as Try Canada Initiative, is a community organization founded in 2023 dedicated to helping newcomers fall in love with Canada by building genuine emotional connection and belonging. The Festival is one of our key community events, bringing together newcomers and established community members to celebrate connection, cultural discovery, and community.
