Are you passionate about social media trends, storytelling, and creating engaging video content? Do you want to help amplify the voices and stories of a community building belonging for newcomers?
Try Toronto is seeking 2 creative content creators to produce trendy Reels and posts for our Instagram. You'll transform authentic event content into engaging short-form videos that capture the joy, connection, and transformation of our community—growing our reach and helping newcomers discover Try Toronto.
This is a perfect opportunity to develop your content creation skills, stay ahead of social media trends, and contribute to a mission of building emotional connection and belonging for newcomers to Canada.
Commitment:
Type: Ongoing flexible volunteer opportunity
Schedule: Flexible based on your availability
Hours: Approximately 2 hours per week
Format: Fully remote
Volunteers Needed: 2
Content Platform: Instagram (Reels and posts)
Source Material: Event content from Try Toronto's approximately 10 monthly events
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old
Passionate about social media, trends, and short-form video content
Experience with or strong interest in creating Reels, TikToks, or Instagram Stories
Knowledge of trending sounds, formats, and hashtags
Comfortable with video editing (basic level acceptable)
Creative and storytelling mindset
Able to capture authentic emotion and community connection in content
Reliable and meets deadlines
Understanding of and alignment with Try Toronto's mission
Basic social media literacy and platform knowledge
Key Responsibilities:
Reel & Post Creation
Review event photos and videos from Try Toronto's community events
Create trendy, engaging Reels and Instagram posts using current trends
Transform event content into short-form videos (15-60 seconds)
Capture authentic moments of newcomer connection and belonging
Use trending sounds, music, formats, and editing styles
Content Strategy & Storytelling
Tell authentic stories about newcomer integration and community building
Showcase the joy, cultural discovery, and human connection from Try Toronto events
Create content that resonates with newcomers and established community members
Develop captions that engage and inspire action
Balance entertainment with authentic community storytelling
Trend & Platform Knowledge
Stay current with Instagram trends, sounds, and formats
Identify trending audio and visual styles relevant to our community
Adapt content to perform well on the Instagram platform
Use hashtags strategically to increase reach
Monitor what content resonates with our audience
Technical Execution
Edit videos with appropriate music, transitions, and effects
Ensure high-quality, on-brand visual production
Optimize videos for Instagram specifications and best practices
Use available tools (CapCut, Canva, or similar) for editing
Deliver polished, ready-to-post content
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with Try Toronto team on content needs and feedback
Receive event photos and videos for content creation
Respond to feedback and iterate on content
Maintain consistent posting schedule
Communicate questions and ideas about content strategy

About Try Toronto (Try Canada Initiative):
Try Toronto, operating as Try Canada Initiative, is a community organization founded in 2023 dedicated to helping newcomers fall in love with Canada by building genuine emotional connection and belonging. Through approximately 10 monthly in-person events across Toronto—including curated tours, volunteering activities, and trips—Try Toronto creates spaces where newcomers explore Canada, learn its culture, and build meaningful human connections.
Additional Information:
Fully remote – work from anywhere
Flexible scheduling – 2 hours per week is manageable
Access to Try Toronto's event content (photos and videos)
Editing tools recommendation and support provided
Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with Try Toronto team
