Do you enjoy talking with and meeting seniors? Would you like to make a meaningful difference in someone's life?

Entraide Ahuntsic Nord is seeking compassionate and empathetic volunteers to visit seniors and make friendly phone calls, helping reduce social isolation and building meaningful intergenerational connections. Many seniors greatly appreciate visits and conversations, and you may sometimes be their only social interaction of the week.

This is a flexible, rewarding volunteer opportunity to build connections while helping combat loneliness and social isolation among seniors in the Ahuntsic Nord community.

Commitment:

• Type: Ongoing flexible volunteer opportunity

• Schedule: Flexible based on your availability and the senior's availability

• Hours: One hour per week

• Timing: Available during the day or evening, on weekdays or weekends

• Format: Hybrid

  • Friendly Visits: In-person visits at the senior's home

  • Phone Calls: Calls in a quiet environment without distracting noise or interruptions

• Location: Montreal, Quebec (Ahuntsic Nord area)

• Training: Mandatory training and orientation provided

• Support: Ongoing support and guidance throughout your involvement

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Empathetic, calm, generous, and dynamic personality

• Comfortable and confident talking with seniors

• Reliable and committed to regular visits or calls

• Ability to be a good listener

• Must agree to a criminal background check conducted by Entraide Ahuntsic Nord

• Respectful and patient approach to working with seniors

• Willingness to be flexible and adapt to seniors' needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Friendly Visits

  • Visit seniors at their homes on a regular, scheduled basis

  • Engage in meaningful conversations and listen actively

  • Provide companionship and social connection

  • Create a warm and welcoming presence

  • Respect the senior's home and privacy

  • Be reliable and punctual for scheduled visits

• Phone Calls

  • Make friendly phone calls to seniors in a quiet, distraction-free environment

  • Engage in pleasant conversations about their week, interests, and experiences

  • Listen actively to their stories and concerns

  • Provide regular and consistent contact

  • Be a friendly voice and source of connection

  • Maintain appropriate call duration and frequency

• Building Relationships

  • Get to know the senior and their interests through conversations

  • Remember details about their lives and ask follow-up questions

  • Celebrate their stories and experiences

  • Provide emotional support and companionship

  • Help seniors feel valued and important

• Communication & Support

  • Maintain regular contact with Entraide Ahuntsic Nord staff

  • Report any concerns about the senior's wellbeing

  • Coordinate scheduling changes with the organization and senior

  • Participate in trainings and support sessions as offered

  • Communicate any feedback or suggestions

About Entraide Ahuntsic Nord:

Entraide Ahuntsic Nord is a community organization dedicated to supporting seniors in the Ahuntsic Nord area of Montreal. Through volunteer programs focused on friendly visits, phone calls, and other support services, they work to reduce social isolation, improve seniors' quality of life, and foster intergenerational connections.

The organization recognizes that many seniors experience loneliness and social isolation, which can negatively impact their physical and mental health. Volunteers are vital to their mission of ensuring every senior has regular social contact and meaningful human connection.

Additional Information:

• Criminal background check will be conducted by Entraide Ahuntsic Nord

• No prior experience with seniors required

• Training and orientation will be provided before you're matched with a senior

• You will be matched with a senior based on your interests and availability

• Ongoing support and guidance provided throughout your involvement

• Flexible volunteering allows you to balance other commitments

• This opportunity is accessible and inclusive

• One hour per week is a manageable commitment that makes a real difference
