Join Street Sisters Society as a Street Level Outreach volunteer and help bring compassion, safety, and dignity to community members living in Calgary’s Forest Lawn and Mission areas. This in-person opportunity is ideal for caring, grounded individuals who want to make a direct impact through meaningful human connection.


Location: Calgary, AB — Forest Lawn or Mission (varies by shift)

Commitment: 6 hours per month (2 shifts per month, each 3 hours)


Requirements:

  • Ages 18+

  • Women volunteers only

  • Clear Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check

    (Some exceptions may apply — contact the team for details)

  • Comfortable walking outdoors for the duration of the shift

  • Compassionate, nonjudgmental, and able to follow harm reduction principles

  • Able to work collaboratively with a team and follow safety protocols


Key Responsibilities:

  • Distribute Basic Needs & Harm Reduction Supplies

    • Manage your assigned wagon (food, harm reduction kits, water, hygiene items)

    • Share supplies safely and respectfully as part of a coordinated team

    • Ensure items are restocked and accessible during outreach

  • Engage & Support Community Members

    • Build genuine rapport using inclusive and trauma-informed communication

    • Protect privacy and dignity at all times

    • Provide information on available supports, including housing and shelter resources

  • Work Collaboratively With the Outreach Team

    • Stay with your assigned group and follow guidance from the Team Lead

    • Assist with de-escalation only when instructed and safe to do so

    • Participate in team reflection and check-ins after shifts

Volunteers walk alongside the Street Sisters team, offering basic needs, harm reduction supplies, food, and resource navigation to people who are underserved, unseen, or experiencing crisis. Your presence, empathy, and consistency can help build trust and hope.
