Join Street Sisters Society as a Tax Clinic Lead volunteer and play a vital role in supporting low-income women across Calgary. This hybrid volunteer opportunity is perfect for compassionate, detail-oriented individuals who want to make a meaningful impact through financial literacy and direct community support.
Location: Calgary, Alberta (Hybrid — remote preparation + optional in-person support)
Commitment: ~80 hours over 12 months
Requirements:
Ages 18+
Women volunteers only
Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
(some exceptions may apply)
English fluency required
Comfortable using computers and learning tax software
Patient, empathetic, and able to maintain confidentiality
No previous tax experience needed — full CRA training provided
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Tax Filing Support
Complete personal tax returns for women using CRA-approved training and certified software
Support clients in understanding their benefits, credits, and refund eligibility
Maintain accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times
Lead and Support the Tax Clinic Team
Serve as the Team Lead for Street Sisters’ new tax program
Coordinate volunteer schedules and client appointments
Help guide volunteers and provide peer support as needed
Communicate program updates and needs to Street Sisters leadership
Client Care & Outreach
Create a welcoming, trauma-informed environment for women accessing the clinic
Provide clear explanations and support for individuals who may be unfamiliar with the tax process
Ensure women receive information about additional community supports when relevant
