Emerging Leaders Placement Project

Are you passionate about technology, entrepreneurship, and empowering young women? Do you want to share your expertise while supporting the next generation of female innovators? Technovation Montreal is looking for mentors to guide teams of young women as they create technology-based business projects and develop applications designed to address real-world problems.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your mentorship and leadership skills, expand your professional network, and directly contribute to reducing the gender gap in the technology sector while inspiring young women to pursue careers in tech.

Commitment:

  • Type: Ongoing hybrid volunteer mentorship opportunity

  • Schedule: Approximately 3–5 hours per week

  • Duration: Five months (January to May)

  • Format: Hybrid (combination of in-person workshops and online meetings)

  • Location: 5605 Avenue de Gaspé, Suite 106, Montreal, QC, H2T 2A4, Canada (for workshops)

  • Time commitment per week:

    • One workshop per week

    • One team meeting per week

    • Occasional follow-ups between meetings

Ideal Mentor Profiles:

Technovation Montreal welcomes mentors with diverse backgrounds and expertise levels. You do not need to be a senior expert or know multiple programming languages.

Technology Profile mentors:

  • Programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)

  • Web or mobile development

  • UX/UI design

  • Artificial intelligence

  • Computer science or technology-related experience

Business Profile mentors:

  • Business models and strategy

  • Competitive analysis and market development

  • Marketing strategy

  • Visual identity and branding

  • Project management

  • Entrepreneurship or innovation expertise

Requirements:

  • Comfortable working with youth ages 8–18

  • Interest or background in technology or entrepreneurship

  • Willingness to share knowledge and experience

  • Strong communication and coaching skills

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback

  • Commitment to supporting participants' independent problem-solving

  • A strong foundation in one relevant area (senior-level expertise not required)

  • Students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and employees are all welcome

  • Compatible with full-time employment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Support & Guidance

    • Work directly with a team of girls throughout the program

    • Support and guide participants as they develop their technology-based business project

    • Help participants develop their own solutions rather than completing the project for them

    • Encourage independent thinking and problem-solving

  • Knowledge & Expertise Sharing

    • Share your knowledge and experience in technology and/or entrepreneurship

    • Help participants understand industry best practices and real-world applications

    • Provide insights from your professional experience

    • Mentor participants in your area of expertise

  • Feedback & Skill Development

    • Provide constructive and supportive feedback on project progress

    • Help participants develop technical, business, and problem-solving skills

    • Guide participants in refining their applications and business strategies

    • Support professional development and confidence-building

  • Team Collaboration

    • Facilitate communication and collaboration within the team

    • Help resolve conflicts and encourage team cohesion

    • Support effective teamwork and communication skills

    • Participate in weekly team meetings

  • Program Participation

    • Attend one workshop per week

    • Participate in one team meeting per week

    • Provide occasional follow-ups between scheduled meetings

    • Contribute to a supportive and inclusive program environment

About Technovation Montreal:

Technovation Montreal is part of the global Technovation movement, dedicated to inspiring and educating young women to become leaders and innovators in technology and entrepreneurship. Through mentorship and hands-on project development, Technovation Montreal helps young women develop the skills, confidence, and networks needed to pursue careers in technology and entrepreneurship.

Program Details:

  • Recruitment timeline: Recruitment generally takes place in the fall for programs beginning in January

  • 2026 status: The 2026 mentor intake is currently closed

  • 2027 recruitment: Expected to open in fall 2026

  • Co-mentoring option: Mentors may also co-mentor a team with complementary expertise
